Research Education for Students

C.A.R.E.S. Program

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition partners each year with school districts in Central Pennsylvania on the C.A.R.E.S. Program (Community, Advocacy and Research Education for Students). This program is designed for high school students in grades 10-12 who want to explore the science of breast cancer, careers in the healthcare field, and breast cancer advocacy opportunities.

Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on activities, laboratory studies and simulated experiments, led by expert researchers and healthcare professionals. Participants are empowered to pursue future careers in science, healthcare, and research with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

Experiential Learning

C.A.R.E.S. students have the opportunity to speak directly with scientists, tour their labs, ask questions and gain insight into their work.

Real-World Research

Beyond the lab, students interact with clinicians and cancer survivors to further study the impact of research on patient care.

Simulated Studies

The C.A.R.E.S. program allows participants to try their hands at many types of medical careers, with inspiration from the experts.

“The C.A.R.E.S. Program is life-changing.”
