2024 Conference Awardees
Eric Winer, MD, FASCO
Potamkin Prize
Director of Yale Cancer Center and President and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale New Haven Health System
Dr. Eric Winer was appointed Director of Yale Cancer Center in early 2022. An internationally renowned expert in breast cancer, Dr. Winer has led and collaborated on innumerable clinical trials that have changed the face of the disease. His work has touched almost all aspects of breast cancer, and he is particularly well known for his work in HER2 positive disease. Dr. Winer has long been an advocate of building teams consisting of scientists and clinicians to accelerate progress in cancer research and care. Dr. Winer is a past president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Dr. Winer has published over 400 original manuscripts and mentored over 30 fellows and junior faculty. He has received numerous awards for his breast cancer research, including the William L. McGuire Memorial Lecture Award in 2016 at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, the Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award at ASCO in 2017, and the Jill Rose award from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 2019. Dr. Winer is an alumnus of both Yale College and Yale School of Medicine.
Michael Humphreys

Insurance Commissioner, PA Insurance Department
Michael Humphreys was named Insurance Commissioner in February 2022 and confirmed unanimously in June 2023. As commissioner, Michael is charged with the responsibility of regulating the Commonwealth’s insurance marketplace, overseeing licensed agents and insurance professionals, monitoring the financial landscape of companies doing business in Pennsylvania, educating consumers, and ensuring residents are treated fairly. Michael’s expertise and guidance were critical for the passage and implementation of Act 1 of 2023, which eliminates all costs associated with screening breast MRI, breast ultrasounds, and BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling for individuals at high risk for hereditary cancers who are insured under Pennsylvania law. Michael previous served as the Chief of Staff for the Insurance Department. He has a Master’s in Public Administration from Bowling Green State University and a BA in Political Science from the University at Buffalo.
Marilyn Fuller-Smith

Survivor & Volunteer
Marilyn Fuller-Smith is a breast cancer survivor, advocate, volunteer, and longtime champion of the PA Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission. For decades, her energy and enthusiasm have inspired women to take charge of their health and lift each other up. Marilyn is a light. As the PBCC Highmark Walk Chair, she has mobilized teams of walkers and donors, raising thousands of dollars and allowing the Coalition to continue its programs and services across the state. Marilyn has made it her own personal mission to walk a mile in the shoes of every person she encounters, particularly the breast cancer survivors she meets. Wearing her signature pink attire, Marilyn offers hope to so many (along with a hug, or maybe two). Marilyn lives with her husband Peter in Camp Hill where you can find her walking toward her 2024 goal of 2,024 miles.
Jim Roberts

Jim is the owner of Jim Roberts West Main Auto in Mount Joy, which recently celebrated 50 years in business. He has been a Lions Club member for over 50 years and a Lancaster County Corvette Club member for over 30 years. Jim has participated in Brock Yates’ One Lap of America in Corvettes for 15 years, this year in his new orange C8 Corvette. One Lap of America is an annual motorsports event comprised of a set of time trials at racetracks around the country, with overnight road trips between tracks. Jim has fundraised for the PBCC through One Lap of America since 2011, raising over $5,000 in 2024 and over $50,000 in total. Jim and his wife Sharon have been married for over 50 years. He has a daughter, Michelle, married to her husband Jason, and they have a daughter, Adaline, who has spina bifida.
Onvo

Founded in 1988, Onvo, formerly known as Liberty, is a family business with its roots in Northeast Pennsylvania. The Onvo story begins 35 years ago with the first truck stop just outside of Scranton, PA in a town called Tunkhannock. Since then, the Onvo team has built a network of travel plazas, convenience stores, and restaurants dedicated to serving the travelers of Pennsylvania, New York, and beyond. As of 2022, the Onvo family of businesses now includes 40 travel plazas and gas stations, 24 quick-service and full-service restaurants, petroleum distribution, and six hotels in Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Onvo has been fundraising for the PBCC and raising awareness about breast cancer at its locations each October since 2022. From 2022-2023, Onvo raised $71,000 for the PBCC and are hoping to bring that number even higher this year!
