2025 Conference Awardees

Join the PA Breast Cancer Coalition in honoring individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership in breast cancer advocacy, research, treatment, and education.

Whether through innovative research that has led to groundbreaking treatments, advocacy efforts that have raised awareness and driven policy change, or educational initiatives that have empowered individuals with the knowledge and tools they need early detection, the collective efforts of our 2025 Conference awardees have contributed to monumental progress in the battle against breast cancer.

Pink Ribbon Award

Governor Josh Shapiro

48th Governor of Pennsylvania

Since taking office, Governor Shapiro has made breast cancer early detection a cornerstone of his health policy agenda. In May 2023, he signed Act 1 of 2023 (Senate Bill 8), the first legislation of his administration, which eliminated all out-of-pocket costs for supplemental screenings like breast MRIs and ultrasounds, as well as BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling. This first-in-the-nation law dramatically expanded access to preventive care and risk assessment, helping ensure that Pennsylvanians can receive early detection tools without financial barriers.

Governor Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro, Honorary Chair of the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, prioritize equitable cancer care by working with public health officials, advocacy groups and nonprofit providers to reduce disparities and improve survivorship outcomes for breast cancer patients.

Krista Hair

Breast Cancer Survivor, Grassroots Partner

Through survivorship and service to others, Krista Hair is an inspiration to many. She has turned her own experience with breast cancer into a source of empowerment for others by supporting women in her community and making an impact on countless lives through her Grassroots Partner event “Pink Out in the Park,” now in its 4th year at Valley Meadows Park in Carlisle. When someone she knows is diagnosed with breast cancer, Krista is a listening ear, sharing not only guidance but also the strength she gained from her own fight.

In addition to her contributions as a Grassroots Partner, Krista played a pivotal role in facilitating the PA Breast Cancer Coalition’s C.A.R.E.S. (Community, Advocacy, and Research Education for Students) program in Lancaster County for high school students interested in pursuing healthcare careers.

Mid Penn Bank Shining Light Award

Methacton High School Lady Warriors Basketball

Grassroots Partner

For 18 years, the Methacton High School Lady Warriors Basketball Team from Montgomery County has hosted a breast cancer awareness game called Shoot for the Cure. The gym goes pink with banners, pink jerseys, pom-poms – the players’ dads even wear pink wigs – all in support of the PA Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission. The team unveils a wall of remembrance for members of the community to share the names of loved ones they know who have been touched by breast cancer. Coaches say, on this night each January, the team plays for something bigger than basketball.

The Lady Warriors have raised over $20,000 for our cause and continue to make Shoot for the Cure the highlight of each season.
