Ephrata, PA-- The PA Breast Cancer Coalition
is proud to announce the opening of its inspirational
traveling photo exhibit “67 Women-67
Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania.” The
PBCC’s exhibit opens September 26 and
is hosted locally by Aestique Medical Center
in Greensburg at the Westmoreland County Community
College. A free public reception kicks
off the exhibit opening at 7:30 p.m. in Founders
Hall at Westmoreland County Community College.
This exhibit is on display through October
7.
The opening reception features guest speakers:
Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President
and Founder
Dr. Theodore Lazzaro, Medical Director of Aestique Medical Center, Greensburg
Dr. Mary Jo Clark, Pediatrician, Mountain View Pediatrics, Greensburg
Ginny Amalong, PBCC Westmoreland County Exhibit Participant
“67 Women-67 Counties: Facing
Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania” is
an educational work of art sponsored
by the PA Breast Cancer Coalition and funded
by the PA Department of Health. The
exhibit features at least one woman from each
of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, along with a
message about how breast cancer has touched
her life.
The women reflect the diversity of Pennsylvania,
while their stories reflect the impact of breast
cancer on the women, their families and their
communities. As an outreach program of the Pennsylvania
Breast Cancer Coalition "67 Women - 67 Counties:
Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania" encourages
women to learn about early detection and celebrates
the life, courage, hope and dignity of women
and families that have battled breast cancer.
“Visiting the traveling photo
exhibit is a wonderful opportunity to make
sure that messages concerning the health
and welfare of families reach every community
in our Commonwealth. The 67 Women—67
Counties photo exhibit—which is both
inspiring and emotional---is a very effective
and moving way to increase breast cancer
awareness in Pennsylvania,” Pennsylvania
First Lady Kathy Schweiker said. Mrs. Schweiker
serves as Honorary Chair of the Pennsylvania
Breast Cancer Coalition.
Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President and
Founder, encourages everyone to visit the exhibit. “Breast
cancer is not a rare event separate from the
fabrics of our lives. It is our mothers, our
daughters, our friends, ourselves. We must
educate ourselves about this insidious disease
and fight to find a cure now… So our
daughters won’t have to.”
The PBCC, founded in 1993,
is a non-profit organization. It serves as
the only statewide grassroots organization
that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors.
This year over 12,000 Pennsylvania women will
be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than
2,300 will lose their lives to the disease.
The PBCC’s mission
is to find a cure for breast cancer and to
improve the quality of
breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state. The PBCC serves
the state’s
67 counties through a network of County Captains, Regional Vice Presidents
and a statewide Board of Directors and provides programs such as the Income
Tax Check-Off, Mother's Day Mammograms®, the Keystone Breast Cancer Conference
and the virtual support group Friends Like Me."
