Participating wineries of the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail raised $2,000
to fight breast cancer.
"It was a project that involved selling calendars and also
accepting donations to benefit the fight against breast cancer," said
Sarah Troxell, Andreas resident and president of the Lehigh Valley
Wine Trail.
Eight member wineries participated in the drive, a move that delighted
Charlotte Asherman, executive director, PA Breast Cancer Coalition.
The group, she says, has much work to do in continuing the fight.
"This will be such a big help to supplement our general fund
and to benefit our education outreach and advocacy efforts. Our
mission, plain and simple, is to find a cure for breast cancer now
so that our daughters won't have to do it," explained Asherman
at the check presentation ceremony held July 24 at Galen Glen Vineyards & Winery,
Andreas.
Dominic Strohlein, of Kresgeville, LVWT president and proprietor
of Big Creek Vineyards, said the wine trail researched suitable
and appropriate causes before deciding on breast cancer as a worthy
benefactor for the Trail's philanthropic goals.
"We actually came across their works while reviewing Internet
sites, noted Strohlein.
The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail is a non-profit organization formed
by eight family-owned wineries to promote regional
tourism and agriculture. The group has made great strides in its
growth and in establishing
a reputation for quality wines. In the past
two years, two of the Trail wineries have won the Governor's Cup
at the Farm Show in Harrisburg.
