EPHRATA, Pa. – Heather Hibshman, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, was chosen by the Lance Armstrong Foundation as a delegate to the inaugural LIVESTRONG Summit in Austin, TX from October 27-29, 2006. Heather was one of approximately 1,000 current and potential leaders selected by the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to attend this summit.
Delegates were chosen based upon their willingness to champion the cancer cause in their local communities, which is something that Heather has done extensively in her tenure with the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, especially most recently in her role as executive director.
The LAF sought a geographic, ethnic and socioeconomic cross-section of Americans affected by various cancer types and interested in making cancer a national priority.
Hibshman was just one of a few select participants granted a full scholarship to attend this inaugural conference . She will bring back the knowledge gained from the summit and share it with the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition so that they can work to improve their efforts on behalf of breast cancer survivors in the state.
“I am proud and pleased that the Lance Armstrong Foundation selected Heather as a delegate to this incredible summit,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, President & Founder of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. “I am certain that Heather will bring back the information and experience she gained from attending the conference and use it to enhance the services that the PBCC already provides.”
Speakers at the summit included breast cancer survivor Elizabeth Edwards, Senator John Kerry; Mike Milken, chairman of FasterCures; LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., M.D., chair of the President's Cancer Panel; author Jim Collins, and Lance Armstrong.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today.
