In time for Mother’s Day, Higashi Pearls and Fine Jewelry launches new bag to benefit breast cancer awareness

Lemoyne, PA—The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition is proud to announce that Higashi Pearls & Fine Jewelry has a brand new bag. In support of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs and initiatives, the fine jeweler will launch the new Mini Kelly Bag on Friday, May 9 at 11a.m. at the Higashi store on the 2nd floor of the West Shore Farmer’s Market, 900 Market Street in Lemoyne.

Pennsylvania Representative Jerry Nailor (Cumberland) will speak on the importance of early detection and breast cancer awareness. PBCC President & Founder, Pat Halpin-Murphy; Susan Fotos, Owner, Higashi Pearls & Fine Jewelry and Joan Todd, Wolf Designs Sales Representative are also scheduled to speak. The reception is free and open to the public.

The Mini Kelly Bag by Wolf Designs will be available in bright pink leather to signify breast cancer awareness. It is a small travel jewelry box with a ring tray and jewelry compartment and a perfect gift for any mom for Mother’s Day. All profits go to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) and anyone who buys a bag during Mother’s Day weekend will be entered into a drawing to win a 14 kt. yellow gold pearl and diamond ring valued at $1,500 from Spark Creations.

PBCC President & Founder, Pat Halpin Murphy said, “When business owners, like Susan Fotos, decide to give back to the community, as they are doing now with this benefit for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, we all benefit. We salute Higashi Pearls & Fine Jewelry for their continuing support for PBCC and the search for a cure for breast cancer.”

Higashi Pearls and Fine Jewelry is a locally owned shop that specializes in original designs and is known for its incredible selection of new designers. The owner, Susan Fotos, prides herself on the comfortable atmosphere and a wide selection of classic jewelry and gifts. This is the second fundraiser Higashi has done to raise breast cancer awareness for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. For the past two years they have sold pink ribbon pins that are accented with pink pearls in support of PBCC educational programs and outreach.

“I am thrilled to be able to work with the PA Breast Cancer Coalition once again to help raise money for breast cancer awareness,” said Fotos. “This Kelly Bag is perfect for Mother's Day or as a gift throughout the year. I am proud that Higashi can play a part in the battle against breast cancer.”

The PBCC, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization and the only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.

The PBCC serves each of the Commonwealth's 67 counties through the Income Tax Check-Off, Mother's Day Mammograms®, the Keystone Breast Cancer Conference, the virtual support group Friends Like Me, and the photo exhibit, “67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania.” For more information on the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition call 1-800-377-8828 or visit the website www.pabreastcancer.org.
