Exhibit's Premiere at Farm
Show to Focus on Rural Outreach
"67 Women - 67 Counties:
Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania",
an educational work of art sponsored by the Pennsylvania
Breast Cancer Coalition and funded by the Pennsylvania
Department of Health is on display at the Pennsylvania
State Farm Show January 5 through 10. The opening
reception is Monday, January 7 at 11:30 a.m. on
the Main Exhibit Floor - West. The exhibit and
opening reception are open to the public. To RSVP
call the PBCC at 1-800-377-8828 ext. 303.
The PBCC joins the Pennsylvania State Farm Show
Arena and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
to bring this incredible outreach tool to the
women and families of the Commonwealth through
the Annual State Farm Show. The photo exhibit
showcases at least one woman from each county
in the state. It celebrates the life, courage,
hope and dignity of the women and families who
have had a personal battle with breast cancer
and encourages women to learn about early detection.
"As we all know, Pennsylvania has the largest
rural population of any state in the country -
so this is a wonderful opportunity to make sure
that messages concerning the health and welfare
of families in our Commonwealth reach every county.
The 67 Women - 67 Counties photo exhibit - which
is both inspiring and emotional - is a very effective
and moving way to increase breast cancer awareness
in Pennsylvania," Pennsylvania First Lady
Kathy Schweiker said. Mrs. Schweiker serves
as honorary chair of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer
Coalition.
Pat Halpin-Murphy, President and Founder of
the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition encourages
everyone to visit the display. "Breast cancer
is not a rare event separate from the fabric of
our lives. It is our mothers, our daughters,
our friends, ourselves. We must educate ourselves
about this insidious disease and fight to find
a cure now
so our daughters won't
have to.
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer
Coalition, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization
serving each of the state's 67 counties through
a network of County Captains, Regional Vice Presidents
and a statewide Board of Directors. The PBCC's
mission is to find a cure for breast cancer and
to improve the quality of breast cancer education,
research and outreach in the state. For more information
