ERIE, Pa. - Did you know there is FREE treatment available for women with breast cancer? In 2001, the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) convinced the state government to extend Medicaid coverage to uninsured women in need of breast and cervical cancer treatment. This program entitles woman to immediate FREE TREATMENT paid for through Medicaid and guarantees coverage to women of their full treatment costs. Unfortunately, many women and their healthcare providers across the state are unaware of the free treatment that is available to them. As regional leaders in healthcare advocacy, the PBCC is joining with Hospital Council of Western PA and the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Erie to spread the word about this service.
The seminar will be held Friday, August 14th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Erie. The seminar will feature speakers from the PA Department of Health, the PA Health Law Project, PA Department of Welfare and the PBCC who are all knowledgeable about the program. They will present information to assist those who work with breast cancer patients who may be without insurance to ensure that they will receive the care and treatment necessary to fight their breast cancer.
"No woman with breast cancer should be denied treatment – regardless of their income or insurance situation,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President and Founder. “Through this seminar, we seek to empower those who care for breast cancer survivors with the information and resources they need to assist those without insurance and ensure that they receive breast cancer treatment."
This seminar was made possible thanks to funding provided by Pfizer.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that is dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer now…so our daughters won’t have to©.
