WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Did you know free treatment is available to women diagnosed with breast cancer without insurance coverage in Pennsylvania? Unfortunately many women – and many healthcare providers – are not aware of the program or how it can benefit breast cancer patients. That’s why the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC), and Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, in partnership with the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, is hosting a seminar on the FREE Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program (BCCPT).
The seminar will be held Wednesday, April 23rd from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Walsh Room in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center at Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The seminar will feature speakers from the PA Department of Welfare, the PA Department of Health, the PA Health Law Project and the PBCC who are all knowledgeable about the program. They will present information to assist those who work with breast cancer patients who may be without insurance to ensure that they will receive the care and treatment necessary to fight their breast cancer.
“No woman with breast cancer should be denied treatment – regardless of their income or insurance situation,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President and Founder. “Through this seminar, we seek to empower those who care for breast cancer survivors with the information and resources they need to assist those without insurance and ensure that they receive breast cancer treatment.”
This seminar was made possible thanks to local partners Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute (NRCI). The PBCC plans to replicate the seminar in all regions of the state throughout the year.
