Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, The Drifters, Rod Stewart, Barbra Streisand, and Petula Clark Among the Artists Who Have Performed Mason’s Songs
EPHRATA, Pa. – A chance meeting a continent away will bring singer, songwriter, and storyteller Barry Mason to the Fulton Theater in Lancaster for a performance to benefit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition on May 8, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Appropriately titled, “Serendipity: An Evening With Barry Mason,” this event will feature the singer/songwriter’s one-man show, ‘Remember Delilah,’ which has raised millions for charity. Mason’s songs include Delilah, The Last Waltz, and Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes). The presenting sponsor of the event is Fulton Bank and Fulton Financial Advisors.
The event was born out of a meeting between Lebanon native and breast cancer survivor Debbie Freer and Barry Mason during a recent overseas trip. The two struck up a conversation, and during the conversation Mason revealed that he performs benefit concerts for charities and would like to do one for Freer’s favorite charity.
Debbie called the PA Breast Cancer Coalition to tell them the story of what had happened, and from that conversation, event planning got underway.
“Barry Mason is a very talented and entertaining songwriter. His stories of the music and the life behind the scenes in the 60s and 70s are extraordinarily engaging, and I am excited that he will have the opportunity to share these stories with all of our community to benefit a great cause,” said Debbie.
Debbie and her daughter, Jenny Freer Szajda, serve as co-chairs of the event. Ten women comprise the committee, which has been hard at work to organize and plan the event. The committee members include Jeanne Arnold, Willa Bacon, Meghann Biado, Trudie Bishop, Marilyn Boogaard, Jamie Cecil, Paula Faralli, and Jessica Schaeffer.
Two ticket levels are available. Patron tickets are $75 and include “preferred seating” and admission to a reception with Barry Mason after the concert. General admission tickets are $30. Tickets can be ordered by contacting the Fulton Theater at 717-397-7425. Sponsorship opportunities, which include tickets to the show and an ad in the program, are still available. Contact the PBCC for details.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today. The PBCC continues to work towards the goal of finding a cure for breast cancer now…so that our daughters and granddaughters won’t have to.
