PA Breast Cancer Coalition Kicks Off Newest Survivor Outreach Initiative

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) will kick off their newest initiative, the Friends Like Me™ Survivor Care Package, by delivering the first package to a local survivor on Friday, June 1 at 3:00 pm at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Donna Spoonhour of Carlisle, PA will be the first of 350 survivors across Pennsylvania to receive a care package. Presenting the box will be PBCC Cumberland County Captain, Karen Byers, and Chris Houston, a local Lance Armstrong Foundation supporter. Boxes will officially be available starting on June 15th by calling the PBCC at 1-800-377-8828 x100 or by emailing carol@pabreastcancer.org

The PBCC received $25,000 from the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to support the Friends Like Me™ Survivor Care Package program. This Friends Like Me™ Survivor Care Package is designed to meet the needs of women who have moved beyond diagnosis, treatment and recovery from cancer and on to the lifelong journey of survivorship. The PBCC was one of only 12 non-profit organizations across the country awarded LAF grants to help people with the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer.

“With this grant, the PBCC plans to provide great materials, resources and cosmetic items to breast cancer survivors in Pennsylvania,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, President and Founder at the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.  “We are honored and excited to be among such an extraordinary group of grant recipients who all share a passion for helping people living with cancer.”

Friends Like Me™ Survivor Care Packages include valuable tools for breast cancer survivors at no cost to the recipient or the requestor. Care packages contain several books, resources, cosmetic items and trinkets which celebrate breast cancer survivorship.
