The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Hosts Seminar On Free Breast Cancer Treatment Program

Seminar Provides Insight into Under Utilized Treatment Program

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Free treatment is available to women diagnosed with breast cancer without insurance coverage in Pennsylvania. The difficulty is that many women – and many healthcare providers – are not aware of the program and how it can work to benefit breast cancer patients. That is why the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) organized a seminar on the Breast and Cervical Cancer Free Treatment Program (BCCFTP) -- inviting those familiar with the program to present the information on the program to those healthcare providers and case workers who can then assist women in need of free breast cancer treatment.

The seminar features speakers from the PA Department of Welfare, the PA Department of Health, the PA Health Law Project and the PBCC who are all knowledgeable about the program. They will present information to assist those who work with breast cancer patients who may be without insurance to ensure that they will receive the care and treatment necessary to fight their breast cancer.

“No woman with breast cancer should be denied treatment – regardless of their income or insurance situation,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy. “Through this seminar, we seek to empower those who care for breast cancer survivors with the information and resources they need to assist those without insurance and ensure that they receive breast cancer treatment.”

The PBCC plans to replicate the seminar in all regions of the state in the future. In addition, the seminar will be offered as a workshop at the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference, scheduled for October 17 in Harrisburg.
