The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition is Named as Finalist for the 2006 Non-Profit Innovation Awards

EPHRATA, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) has been selected as a finalist for the Central Penn Business Journal’s Nonprofit Innovation Awards, which honor local nonprofit organizations that demonstrate innovation in their daily operations.

Thirty-one finalists in five different categories will be honored at a breakfast and ceremony on Wednesday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the York Holiday Inn Holidome. The top award recipients in each of the four categories will be presented the Nonprofit Innovation Award and a check for $1,500. Tickets are $25 per person.

The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) is a finalist in the Programs category for its new publication Breast Cancer: Covered or Not? A Guide on Insurance, which is an insurance and employment guidebook to help breast cancer patients sort through the often complex and confusing issues that may arise.

Breast Cancer: Covered or Not? was co-authored by Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC president & founder, and Dr. Linda Rhodes, former PA Secretary of Aging, to serve as a tool to help breast cancer patients focus their time and energy on beating the disease.

Pat Halpin-Murphy said, “We are proud to be selected as a finalist for this innovation award in the Program category for our insurance guidebook, Breast Cancer: Covered or Not?. This project has been a labor of love on behalf of all women and their families who will face breast cancer. A breast cancer diagnosis raises many questions – this book provides answers.”

The book is available to individuals and non-profits for $5 each, and is also available for free download at www.pabreastcancer.org. The PBCC donated a copy of the guidebook to every public library in Pennsylvania as well, so check it out at your local public library.

The PBCC, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization and PA’s only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.
