The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference Features More Workshops, More Exhibitors

HARRISBURG , Pa . Breast cancer survivors, advocates, healthcare professionals, corporate and community leaders will gather at the Harrisburg Hilton on October 10 and 11 for the 2006 Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference, which is the premier breast cancer conference in the Commonwealth.

New this year is the Breast Cancer Leadership Training on October 10, which is an opportunity for activists to learn how to become a grassroots advocate and fundraiser from those who have been successful in their own advocacy and fundraising efforts. The general conference on October 11 offers three workshops sessions throughout the day, featuring 14 different workshops including topics ranging from breast cancer in young women, information for breast cancer husbands, genetic testing, nutrition and breast cancer, and new trends in diagnosis and treatment.

At our Grand Rounds for Physicians and Healthcare Professionals workshop, listen to the leader of the Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene (STAR) research study and our 2006 Vivian & Meyer P. Potamkin Award recipient, Dr. D. Lawrence Wickerham, Associate Chairman of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), as he explains what the results of the STAR study mean to women. The Potamkin Foundation Award is presented to an individual who is performing outstanding work in the field of breast cancer research as part of a PBCC endowment from the late Philadelphia philanthropists, Vivian and Meyer P. Potamkin.

Join us at our Pink Ribbon Luncheon where we honor our 2006 Pink Ribbon awardees, Speaker of the House John M. Perzel, and Leslie Stiles, Executive Director for the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and Honorary Chair of the PBCC, for their action on breast cancer issues, and attend our evening reception on Tuesday, October 10 as we honor our Grassroots Partners and community fundraisers.

Continuing education credits are available for nurses and radiologists. The conference registration fee is $85.00.

“We gather every October for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference with renewed hope that a cure is on the horizon, and a steadfast commitment to finding that cure,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President and Founder. “This conference is an occasion for all who attend to take away new information that will help us end the tragedy of breast cancer.”

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today.
