PBCC Salutes Bill Sponsor Speaker John M. Perzel for Proposal to Provide Insurance Reimbursement for Cancer Clinical Trial Participants
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Following an announcement from Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives John M. Perzel regarding the creation of the Pennsylvania Cancer Clinical Trials bill, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition announced its support of this legislation and its efforts to require that routine patient care expenses of approved clinical trials be paid or reimbursed by insurers and other health care providers.
“This announcement is a significant step toward a breakthrough in the treatment of not only breast cancer but of all types of cancer,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, President & Founder of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. “Passage of this legislation would open doors for thousands across the commonwealth, giving them access to approved clinical trials, which would advance research and provide improved treatment to those touched by cancer.”
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition recently awarded Speaker John Perzel with the prestigious Pink Ribbon Award for his work in the legislature on behalf of breast cancer survivors, patients, and all women of the commonwealth for passing legislation to provide free mammograms for eligible women 40 and older. “The sponsorship of this legislation is just another reason why Speaker Perzel is an outstanding recipient of this award,” said Halpin-Murphy.
