Breast Cancer Awareness Month Off To a Running Start with “Westmoreland Walks”

5K Walk/Run to Benefit the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition

GREENSBURG, Pa. – On Saturday, October 1, the Spa at Aestique will host “Westmoreland Walks, Inc.: Taking Strides Against Breast Cancer,” a 5K walk/run to benefit the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC). The race will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Aestique Medical Center & Spa and conclude at Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg. Registration is from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m. at Aestique.
“Westmoreland Walks is truly a grassroots effort. Three years ago, three of us decided to walk a bit by faith and see if we could make a difference in breast cancer awareness, education and advocacy in our county,” said Bonnie Harr, one of three co-founders of Westmoreland Walks. “We linked with the PBCC and have made a difference not only in Westmoreland County, but in the Commonwealth!” Bonnie currently serves the PBCC as Southwest Vice President.
The registration fee is $20 at Packet Pickup or $25 on race day, and includes a t-shirt as well as various vendor gifts. For Packet Pickup times and locations, as well as additional information on the race, log onto www.aestique.com or contact Michelle Haire at 1-800-832-6501 x 121.
“This 5k run/walk is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when dedicated people work together toward a common goal,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President & Founder. “It is a great way to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month!”
Breast cancer survivors will be designated with a pink t-shirt and will be honored prior to the race during the “Celebration of Life” ceremony. Parking will be available at Twin Lakes County Park, and shuttle service will be provided from the parking area for all participants to get them to the starting line.

The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization and the only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to help find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.
