Pat Halpin-Murphy, President of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Announces the Official Breast Cancer Awareness License Plates at the Capitol

Plates Feature Pink Ribbon; $10 of Plate Cost Goes to the PBCC

HARRISBURG, Pa. – On Monday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Wing Rotunda of the Capitol Building, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month with an event to promote the availability of the official Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Awareness license plate. This event is free and open to the public.

“Carrying the message of breast cancer awareness to people across Pennsylvania and the nation has never been easier,” said Pat Halpin-Murphy, President and Founder of the PBCC. “I believe that these license plates will serve as constant reminders of the courage of those who have battled the disease and the dedication of those working to finding a cure now…so our daughters won’t have to.”

Scheduled speakers for the program include Leslie Stiles, PBCC Honorary Chair and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women; Representative Katie True of the 41st House District; Claudine Battisti, Community Relations Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation; and Halpin-Murphy. The event follows the Pennsylvania Commission for Women’s Breast Cancer event to be held just outside of the East Wing Rotunda by the fountain.

The license plate, which features a pink ribbon on the left side of the plate, is available through the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition for $32.50. Ten dollars of the fee will go to the PBCC to help fund programs and initiatives. PennDOT will not accept any applications that come directly from individuals – all orders must be first processed by the PBCC.

To order a Breast Cancer Awareness license plate or for more information, please visit www.pabreastcancer.org/license.html. You can download the application or contact Kim Eubanks at 717-738-9567 x104 to have one mailed to you. Please do not contact PennDOT directly.

The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization and the only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to help find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.
