Harrisburg , PA -- The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition is proud to announce that Pat Halpin-Murphy was honored today as one of “Seven Inspirational Women of Pennsylvania” and received an award for women who have changed Pennsylvania History.

The Pennsylvania Commission for Women gave this honor to recognize Women’s History Month. The awards ceremony was held at the Main CapitolRotunda.

The other recipients for this year’s award are Senator Patricia Vance, Dr. C. Delores Tucker, Stephanie Naidoff, Sharon Smith, the Honorable Cheryl Lynn Allen and Margaret Ruddy.

Pat Halpin-Murphy is the President and Founder of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. Founded in June of 1993, the PBCC is organized statewide through a regional and county system designed to extend public awareness of breast cancer, and to encourage increased public and private funding for research, legislative advocacy and high quality screening, diagnosis and treatment.

As the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition's Founder and President, as well as a breast cancer survivor, Halpin-Murphy is totally committed to eradicating breast cancer so our daughters won't have to. She is quoted as saying, " Pennsylvania has the fourth highest rate of breast cancer in the nation; we say enough is enough, it's time to end this devastating disease."

The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition serves each of the state's 67 counties though programs such as the Income Tax Check Off program, Mother's Day Mammograms®, the Keystone Breast Cancer Conference and "67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania” and the online support group Friends Like Me.

The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition's mission is to find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, outreach and research in the state. The PBCC is the only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.
