Last month, the Reading Express indoor football
team held a fundraiser to benefit the PA Breast
Cancer Coalition. Several volunteers attended
the event, along with one staff person. The
very next day, I received this letter from
Dennis, one of the volunteers. I wanted to
share it with you.
Last night I had the
pleasure to volunteer at the Reading Express Indoor
Football game. Of all the years I've been a
volunteer for the PBCC, this event was most
inspiring to me. Let me share some things that
happened and maybe that will inspire you.
First of all I was shocked
at the amount of people that follow indoor
football. I don't know the exact count but it
looked like several thousand. Many people walked by
our PBCC table where we offered free pens, notepads,
pink ribbon stickers, magnets, and Hershey kisses.
We also had lots of literature and a donation box.
Numerous people dropped in a
$20 bill, a $10 bill, several $5 bills and many $1
bills. The money just kept coming in. At one point
a young boy I would guess was maybe 12 years old
walked up to the table, no parent in sight, and
dropped in a dollar bill. A few minutes later he
came back with another dollar. I saw a little girl
about 6 years old stuff the box with several bills.
Another young lady maybe 11 years old put several
dollars into the box. I just could not believe all
the people who wanted to help by donating a few
dollars to the PBCC.
All night I heard people say
things like "My mother is a 22 year survivor", "My
sister-in-law is a survivor", and "I know someone
who has cancer". This night of volunteering made me
feel so blessed and humbled. Thank you PBCC for
allowing me to volunteer.
I couldn’t say it better
myself. Thank you Dennis.
