May 2007
I’m reading a book called Nordie’s at Noon. It’s a true story of 4 women’s personal accounts of being “too young” for breast cancer. They were diagnosed between the ages of 24 and 30. Their stories are real, hopeful, scary and uplifting all at once. It’s kind of like “Sex and the City” in book form. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially young women, going through breast cancer.
Can you imagine being 24 and being diagnosed with breast cancer?? Sadly, many women face that reality each year. And their reality is different from someone’s reality at 54 or 64. Every diagnosis at every age with every individual brings its own set of challenges, issues and obstacles. What is important or vital to someone diagnosed in their twenties may not even be on the proverbial radar screen of someone diagnosed in their sixties.
Nordies at Noon is one of the books we include in our customized “Friends Like Me” care packages for newly-diagnosed women. We send out hundreds of these each year – each one carefully crafted to suit the needs of the woman on the receiving end.
If you or someone you know and love was recently diagnosed, please call or email us. We have the resources to help. It’s why we exist. No one should go through breast cancer alone. That’s what “Friends Like Me” is all about. Click here to request a care package. And please explore other parts of our website to learn about everything the PBCC has to offer.
Sincerely,
