October 2006
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is upon us again. But what does it mean? To the PBCC, it means 17 events in one month. Walks, golf events, horse rides, Longaberger luncheons and art shows…all to raise awareness and funds. Photo exhibit openings, an annual conference, speaking engagements…all to continue our mission and message of the importance of early detection.
I hope to see you out and about this month at one of the many events going on in every corner of the state. Check our events listing to see what’s going on near you.
This month, I have a special opportunity to go beyond the borders of Pennsylvania in my role as Executive Director. I was selected as a delegate to the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s inaugural LiveSTRONG Summit in Austin, Texas at the end of October. It is a three-day event to organize, inspire and direct the efforts of cancer survivors from across the country to change the face of cancer survivorship. The Foundation identified current and potential leaders who are willing to champion the cause of cancer survivorship nationally and in their local communities. I am honored to attend on behalf of Pennsylvania’s breast cancer survivors and their families. I plan to leave Austin energized and empowered with new and exciting ideas for our state.
Whatever Breast Cancer Awareness Month means to you, make it special. Make it the best ever. Make Pennsylvania proud.
