September 2005
Last night I went to a planning meeting for our upcoming 3rd annual “Divas of Jazz” benefit concert October 23 in Lancaster. This is a group of women and men in Lancaster County who came together to raise money for breast cancer awareness in the form of a fun, social, musical evening. I am amazed and impressed by their enthusiasm, endless ideas, vitality and commitment to the cause. It is remarkable to see so many people from different walks of life be so unified in their mission.
They have shown that anything is possible. At this event, they will be raffling off diamond earrings, they’re giving away airline tickets, they’ve gotten original artwork donated, and the singers and food will be phenomenal. Without a doubt, this group reminds us that the first three letters of “fundraising” are f-u-n.
But it is not just groups like the Divas that allow us to continue our fight against breast cancer. It’s Jennifer Brillhart of Jennie B Jewelry, who sends us a portion of sales from her beautiful jewelry pieces. It’s Stephanie Golec of Mechanicsburg, who sent us a donation in lieu of handing out favors at her wedding. It’s the Pennsbury High School powder puff football game that raised money for the PBCC. And it’s the Holy Spirit Hospital 4th floor oncology nursing staff, which collected donations at their annual Christmas party, and sent them to us.
The list goes on and on, and I am overwhelmed by people’s generosity, initiative and creativity when it comes to fundraising. I sincerely thank every one of you who held a special event and made a donation to us this year. You really do make a difference in how we are able to better the lives of women living with breast cancer in Pennsylvania. We couldn’t do it without you.
