United States
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz
US House of Representatives
Throughout her 17 years as an
elected official, Debbie Wasserman Schultz
has been a strong advocate for transforming
the approach to breast cancer. As a member
of the Florida House of Representatives, she
authored the “Drive Thru Mastectomy Bill,”
mandating coverage for hospital stays after
mastectomies. In December 2007 the issue
took on greater significance when she was
diagnosed with breast cancer.
After completing her treatment, Debbie
Wasserman Schultz introduced the Education
and Awareness Requires Learning Young Act,
or EARLY Act. The legislation directs the
Centers for Disease Control to develop and
implement an education campaign about the
specific threat breast cancer poses to young
women. The campaign would lead to earlier
diagnoses and save countless lives. Debbie
Wasserman Schultz embodies the spirit of the
PBCC’s dedication to “Finding a cure for
breast cancer now … so our daughters won’t
have toŠ.”

Senator Hughes has
been a member of the PA Senate since 1994
and was a member of the PA House of
Representatives from 1987-1994. Senator
