United States Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz

US House of Representatives

Throughout her 17 years as an elected official, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been a strong advocate for transforming the approach to breast cancer.  As a member of the Florida House of Representatives, she authored the “Drive Thru Mastectomy Bill,” mandating coverage for hospital stays after mastectomies.  In December 2007 the issue took on greater significance when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

After completing her treatment, Debbie Wasserman Schultz introduced the Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young Act, or EARLY Act.  The legislation directs the Centers for Disease Control to develop and implement an education campaign about the specific threat breast cancer poses to young women.  The campaign would lead to earlier diagnoses and save countless lives.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz embodies the spirit of the PBCC’s dedication to “Finding a cure for breast cancer now … so our daughters won’t have toŠ.”

Pennsylvania Senator
Vincent J. Hughes

PA Senate

Senator Vincent Hughes is a passionate and eloquent voice for women and families in Pennsylvania.  Senator Hughes partnered with the PBCC at a press conference publicizing the Commonwealth of PA’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment program (BCCPT) and shared video of the event on his highly visible website.  He also hosted a full day of celebration and information in Philadelphia about the FREE treatment program.

Senator Hughes has been a member of the PA Senate since 1994 and was a member of the PA House of Representatives from 1987-1994.  Senator Hughes sees his position as an opportunity to provide solutions to people who might not find help otherwise.  His commitment to spreading the word about BCCPT wherever he travels is helping to alleviate fears and break down the barriers to care.
